FAQ’s

Q. How long have you been in business?  What is your photography history?

A. I have been making a living as a photographer since 2003 and have been working as a wedding photographer since 2005. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Digital Communication as well as three Associate Degrees including one in Photographic & Digital Imaging, and one in Digital Art & Animation. I have worked as a photographer at both General Motors and Ford Motor Company, as well as worked as a photographer in a freelance capacity for a variety of different companies and industries.

Q. How should I choose which photographer to go with?

A. Aside from loving their photos, my biggest piece of advice when booking your photographer is to make sure that you like them! They are going to be with you more than anyone on your wedding day. If you don’t “click,” it’s going to show through in your photographs. Another thing to make sure of is that your photographer is insured. You wouldn’t want to hire a electrician to work on your house that didn’t have insurance, would you? Well, same goes for photography. Especially on one of the biggest days of your life. My company is fully insured, so you can rest assured that on the one in a million chance that something went wrong, you’d be covered. Period.

Q. …My friend loves taking pictures (she has a really nice camera and no training, never shot a wedding, etc.) and has offered to photograph our wedding for $200. You’re ridiculously more expensive than that. Why WOULDN’T I have my friend take pictures instead and save a bunch of money?

A. First off, please see the above Q&A. Second, let your friend be a guest on your wedding day! Also, does your friend have backup gear, years of training and on the job experience behind them? Do they use off camera lighting or at the least have something other than the pop-up flash on their camera? Do they know how to edit photographs? What about if it’s really dark and they can’t use flash during the ceremony, will the photos still turn out? If you need more convincing, please read this thread over on WeddingBee. I would hate to see you not receive the amazing wedding pictures that you deserve. This will be one of the only days of your life where you will have so many loved ones all in one place celebrating you and your spouse. I’ve heard horror stories! Want to hear more? Give me a call, we’ll chat and I’ll tell you all about them.

Q.  What is your photographic approach in regards to weddings?

A. I shoot weddings in a photojournalistic manner, which uses images to tell a story, rather than words. I capture the raw emotion of the events throughout the day, and let the pictures tell the story. Some of the images will be a bit more posed and formal, such as the family photos with the bride & groom, but the majority of time I am just capturing events as they occur.

Q.  Will it just be you shooting my session/wedding?

A. I often bring an assistant along to portrait sessions and all of the time to weddings to help carry lights and other equipment. A second photographer is available for your event/wedding for an additional $650.

Q. Do you shoot digital?

A. Yes, 100%. I also carry full back-up equipment with me at all times. This includes a second camera body, a wide array of lenses, batteries, memory cards, etc. Oh, and I’m a Canon girl, in case you’re wondering…

Q. What happens if you’re sick on my wedding day?

A. Well, I can honestly say that I have NEVER missed a wedding that I was supposed to shoot, but if something crazy happened, I have a great network of local photographers that shoot similar to me that I am able to call in an emergency. I trust them immensely. There will always be someone there to shoot your wedding. All of the specifics are in the contract.

Q. Do I get a print release and my proofs on disc?

A. Yes, all of my packages, except for mini-sessions, include all of your full resolution proofs, printable up to 8×12 on disc, with printing rights. Online viewing and ordering of prints is also available through your personal online gallery as well. All products ordered are printed at a professional lab. If they are ordered directly from the gallery, they will be shipped directly to you from the lab.

Q. What do I have to do to book you?

A. A signed contract and a 25% retainer, which of course goes toward your balance,  is all it takes to reserve the date for wedding coverage. I only shoot one wedding per day, so if you book your wedding with me, you can rest assured that on the day of your wedding, you’ll have my full attention! As for portrait sessions, a signed contract and a $50 retainer will get you on the books! I may shoot more than one session per day, but I always leave plenty of time, so you can rest assured that I won’t be rushed that day!

Q. Can I split up my wedding day coverage?

A. Coverage is continuous, so if there is a break in action on your wedding day, let’s use it to our advantage! We can go out with the whole bridal party and grab some fun shots or just the two of you and shoot a more intimate series, which would be perfect to put in your album! If you’d rather just relax with your friends on the party bus for a bit, I’m more than happy to head over a little early to the reception location to take detail and room shots before the guests arrive-time permitting.

Q. How many meetings will we need to have prior to my wedding?

A. Once we have our initial meeting, most everything can be done via e-mail and phone. We will of course meet up when we shoot your engagement session, if your booking includes one. I’ll give you a call the week of your wedding to get the final details and timing of the wedding, reception etc. If more meetings are requested, then I can always make arrangements to meet up with you prior to the wedding. Oh yeah-We can also always set up a meeting using Skype or Facetime. It’s a great way to have a meeting if time or distance is an issue.

Q. When will my proofs be ready?

A. Your proofs will be ready in approximately three weeks. I will e-mail you to let you know when they are up on the website for viewing!

Q. What if I have a question that isn’t listed above?

A. Feel free to give me a call at 586-580-7696 or email me at info@photographybyjlynn.com. I’ll be happy to answer any questions you may have. If you’d like to set up a meeting to go over packages and answer any other questions that you may have, we can set that up too!
